GREAT day with my son…
Today my youngest son, Paul, and I had a wonderful time spending the day together at a sports memorabilia show in Houston. Paul is a most avid collector, and had asked quite some time ago if I could schedule the day off work today so we could share the experience of getting several autographs – Rickey Henderson, Whitey Herzog, and Evan Longoria – and looking for several baseball cards and other collectible items he wanted to add to his considerable collection. We were quite successful in finding most of the items we were seeking, but in my estimation our getting to spend the day together and having the opportunity to meet several new friends who share our love of baseball was by far the most rewarding thing we did.
PLEASE take my advice, and TAKE the time to spend as much time as possible with those you love and to establish new friendships! You will be SO glad you did, and your life will be far more meaningful, as will the lives of those you share time with…
Perfect Father’s Day Gift for Dad
My two sons, their better halves, and my two grandsons are coming to our house tomorrow to spend Father’s Day with me. Today, my older son, Jason, treated us all to a delicious seafood dinner at a local Houston eatery, and my younger son, Paul, gave me a new Cardinals cap – the Sunday cap, red and blue with the Redbird on the bat. As wonderful as all this is and will be, I would like the St. Louis Cardinals’ players and coaches to give my boys and me, along with Cardinals’ fans all over the world the PERFECT Father’s Day gift - a victory tonight against the Royals and another one tomorrow! There is no better way to end a losing skid than to start and continue a winning streak, and that is what I would like for Father’s Day, 2011…
GO CARDINALS!!!!!
Are you a REAL St. Louis Cardinals’ FAN???
After being swept in two consecutive series by the Brewers first and then the Nationals, some Cardinals’ fans may be questioning our team – Not me! First of all, I am a lifetime Cardinals’ fan, and losing or playing poorly may cause me some discomfort but in no way really affects my love for the Redbirds. After being a Cardinals’ faithful for over 63 years, I have seen winning and losing streaks come and go.
During tonight’s’ defeat at the hands of Danny Espinoza, I did see several things that give me cause for renewed hope in the midst of this current losing streak:
1) Matt Holliday is BACK, and with him hitting 4th, Albert will definitely get more pitches to hit – and to drive!
2) Albert is definitely seeing the ball better and hitting the ball with authority to all fields, much more consistently than earlier this season – more like the Albert we all know and love!
3) We stayed in the game until the very end, with the help of come from behind homers from Albert and Yadi,
4) FINALLY, this road trip is over, and we head back to Busch Stadium and the GREATEST fans in the world!
5) Chris Carpenter is on the hill tomorrow night against the Royals, and Carp has always been the man we go to when we need to turn things around!
WOW, it is EXTREMELY AWESOME to follow a team with as much history and talent as my beloved Cardinals!!!!!
Marathon not Sprint, but Berkman Helping Long and Short
When the Houston Astros’ GM, Ed Wade, declined to offer Lance Berkman an opportunity to come back to Houston at the end of the 2010 season, who would have ever guessed that the “Big Puma” would become such an important part of the St. Louis Cardinals’ pennant chase in 2011. Not only has Lance hit like the Lance of former years, but he has become one of the primary leaders of the team, on and off the field! And he’s playing solid defense in both right and left field and running the bases and throwing like he did when a college standout at Rice University years ago. Lance has become the court jester, team cheerleader, and instant main man for the 2011 version of the Redbirds. He has become a vital part of the imposing center of the Cardinals lineup, making opposing pitchers and managers quake when considering how to deal with 3, 4, and 5 hitters Pujols, Holliday, and Berkman! As a lifelong Cardinals fan who just happens to reside in the greater Houston area, I could not be happier for Lance and the Redbirds!!!!!
Now if we can just get all our key personnel healthy and on the field together for an extended period of time…
